Chrysler's clean-sheet Pentastar family launched in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, designed to replace seven older V6 engines with a single modern unit; it is built in Trenton and Saltillo.

The Pentastar won Ward's 10 Best Engines award three years running from 2011 to 2013.
It was engineered to be highly adaptable, accepting transverse or longitudinal mounting and front-, rear-, all-wheel and 4x4 drive.
At peak production Chrysler built roughly one Pentastar V6 every six minutes across its two engine plants.
