The engine

M840T

Twin-Turbo V8 Hybrid

The familiar flat-plane twin-turbo V8 paired with a compact Formula E-derived electric motor, giving the Speedtail a seamless, brutal 1,000-plus-horsepower surge built for one mission: maximum speed.

A hybridized version of McLaren's M840T, engineered in Woking for the three-seat Speedtail Hyper-GT as the spiritual successor to the legendary F1.

Its battery weighs little but delivers what McLaren called the best power-to-weight ratio of any high-voltage pack of its day.
The electric motor used Formula E-derived technology and was claimed to be the highest-performance installation in any production road car at launch.
The Speedtail keeps the central driving position of the McLaren F1, with the driver seated ahead of two passengers.
