GM's Ultium drive unit gives the reborn Bolt brisk, quiet front-wheel-drive torque and easy around-town pep, prioritizing affordability and everyday usability over headline speed.

The next-generation Bolt rides on GM's Ultium platform, the modular electric architecture underpinning everything from the Bolt to GM's trucks and luxury EVs, signaling the city car's leap onto GM's modern EV backbone.

The reborn Bolt switches to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, a cheaper, cobalt-free chemistry that helps hold its low price.
GM plans to build those LFP cells domestically at its Ultium Cells joint-venture plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
The new battery enables roughly a 10-80% fast charge in about 26 minutes, roughly three times quicker than the original Bolt.
