A modular 2.0-liter turbo four with a 48-volt mild-hybrid boost that smooths stop-start and fills low-end torque, giving brisk, refined response with an overboost surge on demand.

A clean-sheet Mercedes-Benz design, successor to the M274, engineered to share architecture and modular components with the M256 inline-six engine family.

It was the first Mercedes four-cylinder to integrate a 48-volt starter-generator directly into the powertrain rather than driving it by belt.
An overboost function can add roughly 40 extra horsepower for up to about 30 seconds under hard acceleration.
An electric auxiliary compressor spools boost almost instantly at low revs to eliminate turbo lag.
