VTEC Turbo

1.5L Turbo I4

A small turbo four that feels eager and rev-happy, layering Honda's signature VTEC sharpness onto low-inertia boost for surprisingly lively delivery in the Civic Si.

Part of Honda's globally produced L-series family dating to 2001, this turbocharged L15 debuted in the U.S. in the 2016 Civic as the centerpiece of Honda's engine-downsizing strategy.

More than three million of these turbo engines have been sold since 2016.
Honda first added VTEC to the 1.5L turbo in the Accord, and the Civic Si version uses a reshaped 11-blade turbine impeller running about 17.8 psi of boost.
It uses an electric wastegate to control boost rather than a conventional vacuum actuator.
