The engine

Power Stroke (Scorpion)

Turbo-Diesel V8

A torque monster delivering well over 1,000 lb-ft to haul and tow with locomotive-like authority, all from a deep, muscular diesel V8 rumble.

Codenamed 'Scorpion,' it debuted in 2011 as the first Power Stroke designed and built entirely by Ford (with Austria's AVL), replacing the troubled 6.4-liter unit.

It uses a 'reverse-flow' head design with exhaust ports exiting into the engine valley, shortening the path to the turbo in the V.
The block is cast from compacted graphite iron, far stronger than conventional cast iron for its weight.
Its Bosch high-pressure common-rail system fires injectors at up to roughly 36,000 psi.
