The verdict

What's good

  • Tremor-specific suspension handles rough trails without aftermarket lift kits
  • Twin-turbo V6 torque curve is well-suited for trailer work
  • Pro Power Onboard is genuinely useful for job site or camping scenarios
  • Commanding seating position and sightlines are best in the segment

What's not

  • City turning circle is one of the tightest in the full-size class
  • Fuel spend on long hauls adds up quickly with a load
  • EcoBoost engines have a known maintenance pattern worth budgeting for
  • Bed length limits parking in tight urban or suburban lots

The engine

EcoBoost

Twin-Turbo V6

A muscular, low-rpm torque machine that pulls hard from just off idle and replaces V8 grunt with boosted urgency, swapping a burble for a deep turbocharged whoosh under load.

Built at Ford's Cleveland Engine Plant on the Cyclone/Duratec 35 block, it grew out of the 2007 Lincoln MKR 'TwinForce' concept before EcoBoost branding launched in 2009.
