Turbo-Diesel V8

A refined, quiet-for-a-diesel V8 that serves up the vast majority of its towing torque just off idle, giving effortless, planted pulling power.

Born from DMAX Ltd., a joint venture between General Motors and Isuzu founded in 1998 and headquartered in Moraine, Ohio; Isuzu engineered the original design while GM handled calibration and integration.

GM bought out Isuzu's stake by 2022, making DMAX a wholly owned GM subsidiary and ending Isuzu's direct involvement.
The L5P delivers about 90% of its peak torque at just 1,550 rpm, which is why it tows with such low-rpm ease.
It is the longest-running single generation of Duramax V8 ever produced.
