Audi's newer MHEV Plus version adds a transmission-mounted motor that can send up to 24 hp directly to the wheels and recuperate up to 25 kW under braking.
The MHEV Plus electric assist can support the engine across the entire 0-140 km/h range, letting the combustion engine run in its most efficient zones.
It shares its core EA888 architecture with hot hatches like the Golf GTI and R, so the luxury sedan and the performance hatch are cousins under the hood.
