Single Rear-Mounted Electric Motor

A single motor sits over the rear axle and drives it alone, which is unusual at this size and price and gives the car a cleaner, more natural turn-in than the front-driven superminis it is aimed at. The tune is for range rather than theatre, and the entry version trades outright pace for the efficiency figure Audi built the car around.

The A2 revives a nameplate Audi last used for its aluminium-bodied aerodynamic experiment of 1999, and does it on the Volkswagen Group's small electric architecture, the same underpinnings that carry the cheaper ID.Polo and ID.3 Neo. The car had its world premiere in Paris on 7 September 2026 with European deliveries from December.

• Audi quotes it as the most efficient series production car the brand has ever built, with the middle version rated at 12.8 kWh per 100 km on the WLTP cycle.
• The entry car uses lithium iron phosphate cells while the larger packs use nickel based chemistry, which is why the cheapest version charges slowest and the largest charges fastest.
• Every version drives the rear wheels only, so there is no all wheel drive option in the range at launch.
• At roughly 4.32 metres long it is shorter than an A3 but carries a 2.77 metre wheelbase, which is where the cabin space comes from.
