Twin-Turbo V8 Mild Hybrid

A hand-built 4.0-liter biturbo V8 with a deep, layered roar, here softened slightly for the GLS but still delivering muscular, refined shove backed by a 48-volt boost.

The M177 was designed by Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach to replace the M157, and pairs an EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid system with the GLS 580's V8.

Its two BorgWarner turbochargers sit inside the vee in a 'hot-V' layout instead of outboard of the cylinder banks.
Each engine is assembled by a single technician under AMG's 'one man, one engine' principle, signed with a personal nameplate.
The EQ Boost starter-generator adds up to 22 hp and 184 lb-ft on demand while enabling smooth stop-start and coasting.
