In the Seal U, BYD's DM-i super-hybrid leans heavily on its electric motors for smooth, refined, EV-like driving while a highly efficient turbo four steps in for long trips, stretching combined range past 1,000 km.

DM-i is the latest evolution of BYD's 'Dual Mode' plug-in tech, a lineage that began in 2008 with the F3DM, the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid, and it pairs with BYD's own cobalt-free Blade battery.

BYD claims a world-leading 43.04% thermal efficiency for the Seal U's dedicated hybrid engine.
The cobalt-free LFP Blade battery is famous for surviving a nail-penetration test without catching fire, peaking at only 30-60°C.
Its DM dual-mode plug-in hybrid family traces directly back to BYD's pioneering 2008 F3DM.
