xDrive

Dual-Motor Electric (AWD)

Two motors deliver BMW's electric xDrive with a temporary Boost mode that briefly unlocks extra power, giving the compact iX1 a quick, comfortable, surprisingly hushed character.

Built on BMW's front-drive-based FAAR platform — a multi-energy architecture shared with combustion and hybrid 1- and 2-Series cars — making the iX1 BMW's electric take on its smallest SUV.

FAAR is a flexible 'multi-energy' platform engineered to take combustion, hybrid, or fully electric drivetrains on the same line.
A push-to-pass-style Boost mode momentarily adds around 40 hp for short bursts of acceleration.
The motors normally favor the front axle but shift torque rearward on demand for a more dynamic feel.
