The verdict

What's good

  • Massaging front seats reduce fatigue on multi-hour highway hauls meaningfully
  • PowerBoost generator output rivals a dedicated job-site unit at this trim
  • Interior finish quality — real wood, soft-touch everywhere — rivals luxury SUVs
  • 4WD confidence and tow ratings still fully intact despite luxury focus

What's not

  • Large turning radius makes dense city driving a constant inconvenience
  • Empty-bed ride transmits road imperfections harshly into the premium cabin
  • Size and price put it squarely in a high insurance cost bracket
  • Hybrid system adds powertrain complexity that can mean longer dealer service visits

The engine

PowerBoost

3.5L Twin-Turbo V6 Full Hybrid

It marries the brawny twin-turbo 3.5 EcoBoost V6 to a 35 kW electric motor for 430 hp and a stout 570 lb-ft, with the electric assist smoothing throttle response and adding instant low-end shove. The result is a full-size truck that's both quicker and more efficient than its gas-only siblings.

The PowerBoost is Ford's full-hybrid version of the proven 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, with the motor integrated into the 10-speed automatic. It debuted on the F-150, the best-selling vehicle line in America, as that truck's first hybrid powertrain.
