The engine

Supercharged V8

A thunderous, instantly responsive supercharged V8 with a snarling, crackling exhaust note that defined the F-Type R's brutal, old-school character and explosive low-end shove.

The AJ133 5.0L is the modern peak of Jaguar's AJ-V8 family, an engine line Jaguar fought Ford to design in-house; it debuted in 2009 and was championed by Jaguar engineering director Clive Ennos.

The AJ-V8 was only the fourth all-new engine type in Jaguar's history, and in 1997 it replaced both the straight-six AJ16 and the legendary Jaguar V12 in one stroke.
When Ford closed the Bridgend plant in September 2020, Jaguar Land Rover took over the supercharged V8's production means to keep the engine alive in-house.
The supercharged AJ133 uses a roots-type blower nestled in the V of the engine for near-instant throttle response with no turbo lag.
